Indiana women’s basketball, after entering February without a win in Big Ten play, now has three in a row.
The Hoosiers beat rival Purdue 74-59 on Sunday afternoon in Assembly Hall, getting revenge for the loss to the Boilermakers in Mackey Arena back in January, Indiana’s first defeat in the rivalry series since 2019.
Indiana was led in scoring by Shay Ciezki, who finished with 29 points after going 10-19 from the field, including 3-8 from 3-point range, and 6-6 from the free throw line. More than
that, Ciezki finished with 12 rebounds and eight assists, just two shy of the program’s third ever triple double. Purdue had no answers for her all game.
The Hoosiers held the Boilermakers to just 33.3% from the field and 29.2% from 3-point range with only two players managing double figures in scoring.
It wasn’t a win without its issues though. Indiana still compiled 17 turnovers that turned into 21 points for Purdue. Turnovers have been a pretty consistent issue for this team on the season, which isn’t surprising given how new and inexperienced the vast majority of the roster is.
Indiana will take a bit of a break before returning to action on Thursday, taking on USC at the Galen Center in Los Angeles.
