There are precious few in the building, both players and coaches, that have been with Deion Sanders at both Jackson State and now with the Colorado Buffaloes. Coach Hart is one of them, Jeremiah Brown (the LB) another, but the list dwindles every year. Bret Bartolone, the former Jackson State OC and now TE coach. He’s had a few roles on the Buff’s staff, but now his role is “departed”
Let’s start with the obvious. The Buffs went 3-9 last year, which was a pretty spectacular fall from grace. The coaching staff was a part of that. However, Bartolone has built up a nice little track record before last year. As an OC at Jackson State, he worked with Shedeur Sanders to produce some of the best offenses in the SWAC for two years. After that, he was the WRs coach for one of the best groups of wideouts that CU has ever had – Travis Hunter, Xavier Weaver, Jimmy Horn Jr, etc. Last year, he was moved to TE coach, which saw an increased use of the tight ends in the passing game. After Shurmur was demoted, Bartolone also called plays for a few games near the end of the year.
He is now taking that talent to the University of Nevada Wolfpack. They will be competing in the new-look Mountain West next year, which might be wide open.
Congrats, coach!
