Chelsea may be getting serious about the bold idea of trying to sign Fermín López from Barcelona, with Ben Jacobs reporting that we have “held further talks” with the 22-year-old — head coach Enzo Maresca also involved — and have also made “initial club-to-club contact” with Barcelona.
Of course, that still doesn’t necessarily mean that anything truly serious will come of this, but Barcelona’s supposed €60m+ asking price wouldn’t be prohibitive (€90m might be though!), especially if Nicolas Jackson
leaves, as expected. Time is running out however, with the transfer window ending on Monday. Certainly no shortage of work to be done before then!
For what it’s worth, Barca’s vice president seemed quite adamant at the Champions League draw on Thursday that Fermín isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, but I don’t imagine he would say otherwise even if Fermín were standing right beside him, bags packed and plane ticket to London in hand.
