We are less than two days removed from Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua being announced for Dec. 11 LIVE on Netflix in Cardiff, Wales, and the heavyweight boxing superfight is already in jeopardy of being called off.
If you’re a boxing fan you know how long it has taken to finally put ink to paper and get both Fury and Joshua in line for a long-awaited clash inside of the ring. The boxing megastars have been on a crash course for years in what is expected to crown the best English heavyweight fighter
of the past decade. Unfortunately, it appears the train may already be derailing less than 48 hours after leaving the station.
According to a recent report by boxing insider Mike Coppinger (shown below), sources close to the situation are concerned that the Netflix superfight might be canceled due to “issues.” It’s unknown at this time exactly what is going wrong, but a potential replacement fight between boxing stars Terence Crawford and Ryan Garcia is already being discussed.
“Tyson Fury-Anthony Joshua could be called off due to issues, according to sources, and a replacement fight between Terence Crawford and Ryan Garcia is being considered,” wrote Coppinger.
“Another possibility: Tyson Fury-David Benavidez.”
If one had to guess what the “issue” is there’s a good chance it’s related to the ongoing public battle between Joshua promoter, Eddie Hearn, and UFC CEO, Dana White, who is helping Turki Alalshikh promote the heavyweight superfight. According to reports, Joshua’s contract states that White is not allowed to help promote the fight, while Fury specifically excluded the verbiage from his contract because he wants UFC’s mastermind pulling some strings behind the scenes.

Until additional details emerge fight fans are left to guess what the “issues” are and whether or not there’s a real chance of Fury vs. Joshua already being canceled. A superfight between Crawford and Garcia would be one hell of a consolation prize, but it would still be a bummer to see the heavyweight clash fizzle out after taking so long to lock down.
