AS Roma are still looking for reinforcements on the wing — they were linked with Alejandro Garnacho earlier this window, for example — and are said to be “very interested” in Jamie Gittens, which is Calciomercato-speak for trying to get a deal and a steal via a loan.
Ol’e HotDays himself, Alfredo Pedullà makes the claim that the Giallorossi are liking Gittens’ “profile” and have therefore made an “official request” for his services for the season.
It’s unclear what the exact terms of their loan offer
might have been — just a loan, or a loan and something else potentially? — but what is clear, at least at this moment, is that Chelsea “aren’t open to a loan”. So, yeah, sorry. No deal.
The report insinuates that the situation could change in the final week and change of the transfer window, and in fairness, we do seem to have maybe a winger or two too many (especially if we broaden the definition of a winger, which may be more apt in Xabi Alonso’s system, to wing-backs and other wide players). That said, Gittens’ struggles last season were largely due to injury, so I’m hoping that he will have the opportunity to show a bit more of his qualities this season.
