Bayern Munich are ready to get back to winning ways in the Bundesliga when they host RB Leipzig this weekend, and Vincent Kompany has made it clear that his team intends to attack with full intensity.
Despite the frustrating draw against Viking FK in the UEFA Champions League, Kompany believes Bayern have plenty of reasons to be confident heading into Saturday’s showdown. The Bavarians have created numerous chances in recent matches, and their coach feels that a few improvements could bring them closer
to their best level.
“We want to go all out. We’re playing at home, and we’re hungry. We know Leipzig’s strengths. You can see that they’ve made a few changes, which have done the team good. They’re coming into this game full of confidence. We’ve had 50 shots on goal in our last two games and done a lot of things well as a team. If we improve a few things, we won’t be far off our very best version. That gives us fire, and we know we can do it,” Kompany said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
When asked about how the team can improve after consecutive draws, Kompany said that the squad just needs to look forward.
“We have a process in place. We discuss things with the team or with individual players. It’s important to put things behind us quickly. We’ve discussed it and moved on. Now, it’s all about the next game. For us, these are the best moments you can experience in your career, when games like these are coming up. It’s always the same during this period. Two years ago, we had Barcelona; last year, it was Arsenal and PSG. It’s always in October and November that the intensity is very high. That’s nothing new,” Kompany said.
The Bayern Munich head coach also praised his players’ mentality following the Champions League draw vs. Viking, emphasizing that the squad remains motivated despite the disappointment. With several important matches against top opposition on the horizon, Kompany believes the team is in a good place mentally and physically.
“Sharp and still highly motivated. There are weeks ahead when we can look forward to every game and measure ourselves against the best. That also has an effect on the team. Our foundation is built on energy and a willingness to run. We had that foundation, and the joy of playing was there too. The foundations are in place, and the lads push themselves to their limits in every training session. In moments like these, it’s easier to communicate on the pitch,” Kompany explained.
