FanDuel Futures Day is today, August 26, where they will be holding specials on a series of odds throughout the day. The one category we haven’t talked about over the past few days as much are the division odds that the Cleveland Browns are getting to win the AFC North. Here are the current division odds:
- Baltimore Ravens (-155)
- Cincinnati Bengals (+250)
- Pittsburgh Steelers (+500)
- Cleveland Browns (+3300)
First off, even if it was by dumb luck, isn’t it incredible that the Browns have not won the AFC North once since returning to the league in 1999? They have made the playoffs three times — winning
one game — with all of those first round match-ups taking place on the road.
Second, there always seems to be another powerhouse in the division, with either the Ravens, Bengals, or Steelers being in the hunt for Super Bowl contention.
After training camp and the preseason, not much has changed with regard to expectations for the Ravens and Bengals. Cincinnati actually got a bit of a boost when they were finally able to re-sign their star defensive end. Like the past few years, though, I think you have to look at the Steelers’ quarterback situation and think they have the potential to fall even further. They somehow managed to survive a duo of Justin Fields and Russell Wilson last year, but the magic ran out eventually. Their band-aid solution in the post-Roethlisberger era continued this offseason with the signing of Aaron Rodgers, which could be a disaster like it was with the Jets the last few years.
The Browns, on the other hand, seemed to have their stock boosted this preseason, if you ignore the dumb headlines some people tried to manufacture about Shedeur Sanders. Cleveland settled into Joe Flacco being the starter, and the defense has shown glimpses that they could be ready to return to their dominant form from the 2023 season, ignited by two rookies in Mason Graham and Carson Schwesinger. I think that could be more than enough to carry Cleveland past Pittsburgh, and possibly past the Bengals; but even with the tempting odds of winning the AFC North at +3300, it’s hard to make a stake that this is the year Cleveland finally achieves it.
