LSU returns to Tiger Stadium looking to respond after a 35-34 overtime loss to Kentucky in Lexington. Now 4-2 overall and 1-2 in SEC play, the Tigers face a ranked Mississippi State team that could create more problems if LSU doesn’t clean up their mistakes.
Here’s what it would mean for LSU if it wins or loses.
If LSU wins:
A win over No. 16 Mississippi State would give LSU a much-needed bounce-back victory and help restore confidence after the Kentucky loss. Improving to 5-2 overall and 2-2 in SEC play would keep
the Tigers in the conversation in a competitive conference race.
More importantly, LSU would have a chance to prove they can finish against quality opponents. Sam Leavitt and the offense have shown potential, but the Tigers need a complete performance to take down the Bulldogs and regain momentum.
If LSU loses:
Another loss would put LSU in a difficult position at 4-3 overall and 1-3 in SEC play. After letting a winnable game slip away against Kentucky, dropping another matchup would raise further questions about the Tigers’ consistency.
The loss wouldn’t mathematically eliminate LSU from the SEC championship or College Football Playoff conversation, but the margin for error would shrink considerably.
Saturday’s game gives LSU an opportunity to move past the Kentucky loss and prove they can compete with ranked SEC opponents. A victory would provide a valuable reset, while another defeat would make the road ahead significantly tougher.
