The New Orleans Saints will close out their 2026 preseason with a road trip to take on the Dallas Cowboys. New Orleans is coming off of a rough 34-0 loss to the Los Angeles Rams while the Cowboys dominated the Arizona Cardinals 34-13. Let’s take a look at how the Saints offensive matchup is looking ahead of week 3.
After sitting out of the team’s first two exhibition contests, Saints’ quarterback Tyler Shough should hit the field with the starters for at least a couple of series against the Cowboys.
This will not come as an unfamiliar opponent however after the two teams went viral for their less-than-peaceful joint practice against one another.
Through two games each this preseason, the New Orleans Saints offense currently ranks 28th in the league with an average of ten points per game while the Dallas defense is ranked fourth overall for points against with the same total.
New Orleans has struggled mightily to run the football in their first two games with an average of just 80.5 rushing. The Saints’ backup QBs have combined for a middle of the road ranking for passing yards. They rank 16th overall with an average mark of 204.5 per game.
Dallas totes one of the better defensive backfields in the league with Malik Hooker, DaRon Bland, and rookie Caleb Downs all roaming the gridiron. If New Orleans is able to put together a competent game versus Dallas’ defense, they may be able to quiet some of the haters’ flak from last weekend’s loss. With the roster cuts deadline just a few days away, this will be one of the final opportunities for the offensive players to make their case for a spot on the 53-man depth chart.
