The Cubs might take home a few Gold Gloves this year, as six Cubs players are finalists for those awards, as announced last week by Rawlings.
Even more hardware could be going home with Cubs batters for
2025, as three Cubs players, Pete Crow-Armstrong, Kyle Tucker and Nico Hoerner, were named finalists for Silver Slugger awards.
Once again, a note that “finalist” doesn’t mean there’s another election — the players below were simply the top vote-getters at each position:
Three of the six outfielders listed will get Silver Slugger awards, so it’s certainly possible that both PCA and Tucker could win the award.
Here is how the voting is conducted:
Position finalists and winners are determined by a vote of National League managers and coaches who cast ballots for players at each position in their league. Each NL team receives four (4) votes; the manager and three coaches of the team’s choice. Votes are based on a combination of offensive statistics including OPS, OPS+, home runs, RBI, batting average, total bases and runs, as well as the managers’ and coaches’ general impressions of a player’s overall offensive value.
Some offensive highlights for each player:
- Pete Crow-Armstrong: 31 home runs, tied for eighth in the NL and tied for fourth most among NL outfielders. His 95 RBIs were tied for eighth in the NL.
- Nico Hoerner: Owned the second-best batting average in the NL at .297, and his 178 hits were third most in the NL. His .394 SLG ranked fourth among NL second basemen with 120 or more games.
- Kyle Tucker: His .377 OBP ranked fourth in the NL.
Personally, I think Seiya Suzuki was one of the top three DH in the NL. Clearly, Shohei Ohtani and Kyle Schwarber had better years and Ohtani is the likely winner, but Suzuki’s 2025 season was pretty close to what Yelich did. Perhaps Suzuki finished fourth in the voting.
Also, the Cubs are among the nominees for National League Offensive Team of the Year. The Cubs’ 791 RBI were second most in MLB, and their 223 home runs were third most in the NL. The other nominees are the Diamondbacks and Dodgers.
Congratulations to all the nominees and, as noted, the NL winners will be announced Thursday, Nov. 6.
