Joe Rogan doesn’t know whether Jon Jones vs. Alex Pereira will come together, but he does know it’s the biggest fight in MMA history if it does.
Jones and Pereira have been circling each other since mid-2024
when both men suggested a superfight should happen. But with the UFC (rightfully) locked in on Jones defending against interim champion Tom Aspinall, nothing ever came of it.
Now it’s one year later and Jones has relinquished the belt. He’s talking up a return fight at the White House in June, and Alex Pereira is offering himself up as the opponent. Will it happen?
“Who knows? That’s part of the fun,” Rogan said in the latest episode of his podcast. “He’s doing a little pool hustling, that’s what he’s doing. Jon thinks that he’s fighting in June, he’s already in camp … Jon really thinks he’s going to fight Alex Pereira. He’s getting ready. He’s at least getting ready in his mind.”
“[The Tom Aspinall ship] hasn’t sailed,” he added. “But the big money fight is Alex [Pereira] vs. Jon Jones at the White House. Are you f–king kidding me?”
As usual, Rogan had a couple of crazy ideas on how the fight could be made that go against all the UFC’s established norms over the years.
“Catchweight. Make it 225,” he suggested. “Alex still is the light heavyweight champion. Make it a catchweight fight. It don’t have to be for a title. Make it the Bad Motherf–ker upper edition. You have the BMF belt for 155ers. Who’s the real BMF? Do you think one of those guys could beat Alex Pereira? You think you’d get a 155 pounder in there against Alex Pereira? Does Max Holloway survive against Alex Pereira? No. Shut the f–k up. That’s the bad motherf–ker.”
“The Jon Jones vs. Alex Pereira fight would probably be the biggest fight in human history. In MMA. You’ve got the greatest of all time in Jon Jones and arguably the most destructive striker that’s ever competed. No one’s like that guy.”
UFC CEO Dana White has repeatedly said he can’t rely on Jones to headline the White House card after all the last-minute withdrawals and trouble Jones has caused the promotion over the years. But with pressure on the promotion to deliver for Paramount CBS, who knows what could develop in 2026? Maybe the UFC will loosen their grip on the leash a little and let two of their biggest stars fight. It’s right there.
