Bayern Munich head to Madrid knowing that tomorrow’s Champions League clash against Atlético Madrid carries significant importance. After consecutive draws in the competition, Vincent Kompany’s side cannot afford to let more points slip away if they want to secure a place in the top eight and avoid the additional knockout-round playoff.
Harry Kane knows exactly what is at stake and expects a difficult evening in Spain.
“It’s an important match for us. We’ve now had two draws in the Champions League
and we know how important it can be to be in the top eight. We’re in for a tough away game, and we’ll have to step up our game to win this one,” Kane told FC Bayern.com.
Joshua Kimmich also emphasized the importance of collective responsibility, particularly after a difficult stretch for the squad.
“It’s all about being a team. The last few weeks haven’t been easy for us, but we’re a very good team. We’ll give it our all against Atlético,” Kimmich told FC Bayern.com.
There was also somewhat encouraging news on the training ground ahead of the trip. Luis Díaz has resumed individual training on the pitch with the ball for the first time since suffering his muscle injury—an important step in his recovery.
Jamal Musiala also completed an individual training session, though tomorrow’s match comes too soon for his return. Meanwhile, both Manuel Neuer and Jonas Urbig were available for Bayern Munich’s final training session ahead of the Atlético encounter, per Abendzeitung’s Maximilian Koch (via @iMiaSanMia).
Meanwhile, Michael Olise trained with the rest of the team, albeit with a bandaged knee:
The injury situation remains far from ideal, but there are at least some positive developments. Bayern Munich will need everyone available to contribute as they look to deliver a statement performance in Madrid and get their Champions League campaign back on track.
