If there’s one player you can bet your money on playing every minute available for the German national team, it’s captain Joshua Kimmich. Bar injury or sickness, you can count on the 30-year-old to be present
on the pitch leading his side from the right flank or midfield. Although, even injury can barely keep Kimmich out of the action.
The German captain was forced to miss his side’s FIFA World Cup qualifying clash against Luxembourg due to a capsule injury in his right ankle. However, Kimmich was back in the starting lineup against Slovakia despite not being fully recovered.
Germany manager, Julian Nagelsmann, praised his captain for his performance and grit in spite of his condition.
“He’s very valuable to us,” acknowledged Nagelsmann in a post-match interview (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “He has a lot of experience at this level and played many such games. He’s one of the best crossers of the ball in Europe, we saw that in the first goal, which was very important. He worked hard and had a good performance like everyone else. He still had a bit of pain, but he always gives everything for the national team and for his club. That’s why he’s our captain.”
Bayern coach, Vincent Kompany, will be wincing at the thought of Kimmich playing through an injury, however, given Kimmich’s fighting spirit and considering the importance of the game, Nagelsmann likely had no choice in the matter. Kompany will be relieved that one of his most important players did not aggravate his injury.
The German midfielder will be back in action on Saturday as Bayern Munich take on SC Freiburg at the Allianz Arena.
