With the draft just about three weeks away, we should be getting a clearer picture of who exactly the Steelers will be targeting on night one of the NFL Draft in Pittsburgh. We know about half of the Steelers’ top 30 pre-draft visitors, and the latest prospect should be a familiar name to BTSC readers who have been following our own Ryan Parish’s Draft Gem Series: Memphis offensive tackle, Travis Burke.
Burke has become a hot commodity for teams, as seven other franchises have also welcomed the tackle
in for a pre-draft visit. Burke started 11 games this past season for the Tigers and has shone throughout the pre-draft process following solid combine and pro day performances.
Burke is a massive human being, measuring in at 6 feet 9 inches tall, 325 pounds, with 34.24” arms at the combine. With offensive linemen, particularly of Burke’s stature, the concern is always lateral movement and quickness. However, Burke has flown up draft boards over the last several months after testing well athletically to the tune of a 9.01 relative athletic score.
Burke started his career at Gardner-Webb before transferring to FIU and eventually Memphis, where he finished his collegiate career. Burke is a polished prospect with over 3,000 combined snaps throughout his career. For a team like the Steelers, which has 12 total draft picks, it makes sense for them to take a shot on someone as gifted and experienced as Burke to continue to shore up their offensive line.
