The Frog offense started off a bit slowly but knocked down three threes in the first quarter to build an 11 point lead heading into the second.
The Frogs continued to control the game in the second quarter, extending the lead to 21 points before Tarleton State battled back a bit to cut the deficit to 16 points heading into halftime. The Frogs did not let up on the gas in the final ten minutes, holding Tarleton State to just six points, their third quarter with single digit points in the game.
TCU’s defense was absolutely suffocating in this game, holding Tarleton State to just 16% shooting from the field and 11% from three. The Frogs did a great job of cutting off passing lanes and playing with active hands as they forced 22 turnovers and blocked nine shots as a team. Tarleton State managed to make just nine field goals as a team in the game as TCU played its best defensive game of the season thus far.
Marta Suarez had her first double-double as a Horned Frog with 20 points, ten rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Suarez has been the Frogs’ best scorer this season, consistently exploiting mismatches and scoring from all three levels. Olivia Miles has continued to play like a top three WNBA draft pick with 18 points, seven assists, five rebounds, and four steals. Miles did a great job of taking care of the basketball with just two turnovers in the game despite being the primary ballhandler for her 33 minutes played. Miles has shown an adept ability to get defenders off balance and draw fouls as she attempted ten free throws against Tarleton State and knocked down seven of them. Taylor Bigby had an excellent game off the bench for TCU with 18 points and five rebounds. Bigby has provided high energy minutes off the bench this season for the Frogs.
The ability to win in different ways is the mark of a great team and the Frogs found a way to come away with a blowout win despite shooting just 26% from three as a team. This TCU team has been rock solid on defense this season and can attack offensively in multiple ways.
