Trenton Yancey, a composite 4* receiver out of Duncanville High School (Texas), committed to Purdue’s 2027 recruiting class earlier today.
Yancey chose Purdue over SMU, Texas, and Florida in a recruiting coup for the Boilermakers. This is a huge recruiting win for wide receiver coach Bilal Marshall and offensive coordinator Josh Henson.

High School Highlights
Thoughts
Purdue needs playmakers, and Yancey, on paper and film, is the best the Boilermakers have signed since the late great Rondale Moore. You’ll notice in the above video that he plays both as a wildcat quarterback and at wide receiver. That’s what you do in high school when your athlete is better than their athletes. Sometimes it’s easier to skip a step and hike the ball to your best player. Keep in mind, this isn’t a case of “sure, but what does this look like against better competition” type of deals. There is no lack of talent in 6A-D1 Texas high school football. Former Duncanville players include quarterback Keelon Russell, who was a 5*, #2 overall-rated player in the 2024 class, currently waiting in line at Alabama. Dakorien Moore, the 5*, #1 wide receiver and #5 overall player in the 2025 recruiting class, who signed with Oregon, and defensive end Colin Simmons, a 5* defensive end who was rated as the #2 defensive end and the #15 overall player in the 2025 recruiting class. It takes a lot to stand out on film when you’re surrounded by some of the best athletes in high school football, but Yancey stands out when he gets the ball in his hands.
If you’re interested in how Purdue will try to utilize Yancey in the offense, keep an eye on Xavier Townsend this season; that’s how I anticipate Yancey will be used in Josh Henson’s offense.
As we all know, football recruiting is a treacherous business, and Yancey will have a line of suitors trying to convince him to play elsewhere. Still, for the moment, the Boilermakers and Barry Odom have just announced their arrival on the National, and specifically Texas, recruiting scene.
This kid is the real deal. Hopefully, this sticks.
