A lot of Green Bay Packers fans, who watched their team struggle against the Carolina Panthers in Week 9, were surprised when the Packers were listed as favorites against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 10. Green Bay opened up as 2.5-point favorites at home, dropping quickly to 1.5-point favorites, but that 1.5-point line held steady throughout the week.
On Monday, though, the Eagles’ money started to pour in. Based on the live lines, Philadelphia has become anywhere from a half-point to 1.5-point
favorites at Lambeau Field, depending on the book. That’s a very drastic swing for a single day’s worth of action, but this game is the only show in town for the NFL tonight. You tend to see these swings more for Monday Night Football games, but it’s still not common.
So far, there hasn’t been a big injury surprise, which is what it generally takes to move a line four full points throughout the week. The Packers didn’t have to activate a practice squad receiver, which probably means that the questionable Matthew Golden, Savion Williams and Dontayvion Wicks will be able to go against Philadelphia. The Eagles did activate pass-rusher Nolan Smith from the injured reserve today, but Smith isn’t a player who has a quarterback-level impact on the game. Generally, the thought is that the difference between an elite quarterback and an average backup is usually around a touchdown on the spread.
Ultimately, the Packers going from less than a field goal favorite to being less than a field goal underdog isn’t that big of a deal, but these numbers also impact the alternative line odds and how those can get merged into parlays, which is likely why sportsbooks made the change. Either way, here’s what you need to know: There’s a lot of action coming on Philadelphia as we approach kickoff.
