Barcelona have reportedly made their first move to sign Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid
ahead of the summer transfer window.According to ESPN, the Catalan giants “have initiated contact” with Diego Simeone’s side in a bid to discover “the club’s stance over the possible transfer” of the striker this summer.
Alvarez tops Barcelona’s list of potential replacements for Robert Lewandowski this summer but a deal will not be easy to complete as Atletico are hoping he will stay.
The report adds there
are two reasons why Barca think they can sign Alvarez this summer.
Firstly, Barcelona are hopeful they will be back within the 1:1 rule this summer. La Liga president Javier Tebas has said recently Barcelona are “on the right track” and “in a much better position” ahead of the opening of the transfer window.
Secondly, there is optimism at Barca that Alvarez wants to make the move and believe his desire to join the club “could play an important role in a potential deal.”
ESPN also highlight how this was also the case when Antoine Griezmann made the switch between the two clubs back in 2019.
