Newcastle United are preparing to open talks over a new contract for Tino Livramento as Ross Wilson continues his early audit of player deals across the first team.
According to The Athletic’s Chris Waugh,
the 22-year-old full-back is one of the club’s next priorities, with discussions over an improved and extended deal expected to take place in the coming months.
Livramento’s current contract runs until June 2028, leaving Newcastle in no immediate danger of losing him. However, his growing importance under Eddie Howe and mounting interest from elite European clubs, including Manchester City, has prompted the club to act early.
Guardiola’s side were among those linked with Livramento over the summer, while others in Europe continue to monitor his situation just in case NUFC cannot lock him into a long-term deal.
Despite being sidelined with a knee injury and not expected to return until December, Livramento has become an automatic starter when fit as he’s blossomed into one of the Premier League’s top young defenders.
Livramento’s rise has mirrored Newcastle’s broader push to secure key players long-term. Waugh notes that Wilson has already completed an internal review of player contracts, following revelations that Sandro Tonali quietly extended his deal during his gambling suspension to 2029, with a club option through 2030.
As Newcastle aim to avoid a repeat of the Alexander Isak situation, where delayed negotiations led to concerns over pay, the focus has shifted toward retaining young, high-value assets before their stock rises further.
