Bayern Munich’s backup goalkeeper Sven Ulreich is set to retire at the end of the 2025-26 season.
According to Kicker’s Frank Linkesch and Georg Holzner (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Ulreich is expected
to hang his gloves up when the current season concludes. However, this does not mean he will be leaving Munich for good. Rather, the report suggests that Ulreich will be integrated into the club in a different role. While specific details are unknown, it can be reasonably assumed that he will take on a role as some sort of goalkeeper coach.
Ulreich has been Manuel Neuer’s backup for most of his time in Munich, and has been handsomely rewarded for his quiet efforts, namely with a treble and a national team callup. Now, he is Bayern’s third goalkeeper after Neuer and Jonas Urbig.
It remains to be seen what the remainder of Ulreich’s career will look like, and what kind of role he will take on after he hangs up his gloves.
