We are very deep into the swing of things in the college springs sports season. Many of the sports, such as lacrosse, are either about to start or already have started their NCAA Tournaments. Meanwhile, the brackets in other sports like baseball and softball will be released sooner rather than later. Either way, there’s still plenty of championship yet to be decided and UNC teams will play a part in many of those.
As mentioned, the fields for the lacrosse tournaments have already been released, and
the North Carolina Tar Heels got high seeds in both of them. Teams like baseball, women’s tennis, and men’s golf are all considered among the contenders in their respective sports. Softball and women’s golf will also be hoping to make their respective field. Plus, there are individual sports like track and field and the individual tennis brackets where Tar Heels could also contend. There’s a plethora of Carolina action still on the horizon.
With that in mind, for today’s question of the day, I thought I’d ask: which UNC team are you most excited to follow for the rest of this spring season as they try to win a national championship?
For me personally, the answer is baseball. That probably will be a common answer, as college baseball is probably the most followed sport of those still to crown a champion this season. That being said, baseball is my favorite sport of all. That mainly applies to the MLB level, but I keep track of the Diamond Heels as well.
In addition to me just loving baseball, I would also really love to see UNC finally get over the top and bring home a baseball national championship. UNC have been regulars at the College World Series in recent decades, and they’ve come agonizingly close on a couple of those occasions. Coach Scott Forbes has put together some very strong teams in recent years, and this year appears no different. By most rankings, UNC currently sits in the #2-3 range. The NCAA Baseball Tournament is always a grind, and you need some amount of luck on your side to make it all the way through. However, UNC definitely appears capable of doing that, and I’m really hoping this is the year.
That’s me, but now we want to know about you guys? What spring UNC team are you most excited to follow in their respective NCAA tournament or championships?
