UConn forward Joey Muldowney has been named to the US Collegiate Selects roster for the 2025 Spengler Cup, the team announced on Thursday.
The competition, held annually in Davos, Switzerland from Dec.
26-31, typically features six club or national teams from Europe and North America. This is the first time the tournament will feature a college hockey team, which will be comprised of active, non-freshman Division I players of any nationality from all six conferences as well as the independent programs.
Muldowney earned his spot on the squad as one of the top goal scorers in the nation. Last year, he lit the lamp 29 times — second-most in the country and most among players returning for the 2025-26 college season. Muldowney is off to a fast start on a new campaign as well, scoring in both games at Colorado College over the weekend.
If the US Collegiate Selects make it to the final day (Dec. 31), Muldowney will miss UConn’s New Year’s Eve matchup against LIU and potentially even the next game against the Sharks on Jan. 3.
The rest of the roster will be named in a month or so, according to Brad Elliott Schlossman. The Huskies should have a few other players in contention for a spot if they perform well early on: Jake Richard, Ryan Tattle or one of their defensemen.
