On January 7th, 2022, Paul Wanner replaced Marc Roca in the 75th minute of a 2-1 loss to Borussia Mönchengladbach. The appearance occurred 15 days after his 16th birthday, officially making him the youngest Bayern Munich player to play in a Bundesliga match. Expectations could not have been any higher for the budding attacker.
Fast forward three years and Wanner is coming off successful loan spells at Elversberg and Heidenheim. He has logged more than 3,000 professional minutes and looked poised to
enter Bayern’s rotation. Unfortunately, Wanner saw a different future and Bayern facilitated a €15M move to PSV Eindhoven.
“I have so many memories at FC Bayern,” said Wanner (via @iMiaSanMia). “I was even a ball boy there. I’m very grateful to Jamal (Musiala) for all the tips he gave me. Thomas Müller really looked after me. He’s an incredibly smart man. And I’d also like to mention Joshua Kimmich, because he talked to me a lot. Bayern is a club that cultivates a winning mentality from day one. I’m very grateful to them.”
Bayern holds a buyback clause but Wanner is focused on the path in front of him.
