It is increasingly likely that Manuel Neuer will hang up his gloves when the 2026/27 season ends, and Jonas Urbig is next in line to become the number 1 goalkeeper. Despite reports of Neuer being a bit of a divisive figure at club level and international level, Urbig maintained that they’re cool with each other.
“I think Manu once said while with the national team that we’re rivals who are also friends,” Urbig revealed (via Bayern’s official website). “That’s how I’d describe the relationship within
the goalkeeping group as a whole: On the pitch, we support and spur each other on, and we also share personal interests off the pitch. We’re a close-knit group, and we’ll make sure it stays that way.”
As egotistic Neuer appears to be, he at least knows to be a good sport with his peers and pass on his expertise and use his experience to good effect.
