Earlier this year, rumors circulated that Brock Lesnar could potentially end his career at SummerSlam 2026, which takes place in his home state of Minnesota. According to these rumors, his opponent for his retirement match would be none other than Mr. Career Killer GUNTHER.
Of course, those rumors quickly disappeared after Lesnar lost a match in decisive fashion against Oba Femi at WrestleMania 42 last month. Following the defeat, Lesnar became uncharacteristically emotional and left his boots in the center
of the ring, as is customary of wrestlers who are marking their retirements.
Well, the rumors of a potential clash between GUNTHER and Brock are officially back on after The Beast made a shocking return to WWE on May 18’s episode of Raw to attack Femi. After laying out Femi with several F5s, Brock made it clear he’s not ready to call it a career just yet, and his return set up a rematch against Oba for Clash in Italy on May 31.
The potential dream match between GUNTHER and Lesnar is still not far from people’s minds, though, and The Ring General was recently asked if fans would soon see the two fight during an interview with Michele Ippolito of Italian Wrestling Channel.
“All the WWE Universe is waiting for Gunther against Brock Lesnar. Do you think we will see this match on the way?” Michele Ippolito asked.
“I don’t know. I wasn’t even there on that day on ‘Mania, because it was the day after me, when a lot of it happened with Brock,” the Austrian superstar replied. “So, I only saw it like a headline and that’s literally all the info I had. Obviously, he’s back now, but I haven’t thought about it.”
GUNTHER then noted that he’s currently focused on his upcoming championship match against Cody Rhodes set for Clash in Italy. However, he added that after he dispenses of Rhodes, he’d be ready to take on Lesnar.
“I’m really focused on what I’m doing with Cody now. I will be challenging for the WWE Undisputed Championship in Italy, and that’s my full focus right now,” he said. “After I beat Cody then Brock can challenge me, and we’ll do that.”
