The Chicago Bears and New York Jets meet on Sunday in the Windy City, and both teams will be without key contributors.
No surprise that Caleb Williams will miss his second consecutive game with his hamstring injury, but head coach Ben Johnson did not name a starting quarterback.
“I don’t necessarily know there is a right answer or a wrong answer,” Johnson said about starting either Tyson Bagent or Case Keenum. He said the coaching staff has been split on the decision. Johnson added about his two backup
quarterbacks, “I know both of them are well prepared to play and win a game for us”
Starting left tackle Braxton Jones is out with the knee injury he suffered Monday night, and Johnson said Theo Benedet would get the start.
Ozzy Trapilo had another full week of practice, but Johnson said he’s not quite game-ready, though he is close.
Also technically ruled out for the Bears are three players in their 21-day practice window from the PUP list: defensive tackle Shemar Turner (knee), linebacker Noah Sewell (Achilles), and nickel Kyler Gordon (calf). None are eligible to be activated until Week 5, but all three practiced in full today.
The only other player on Chicago’s injury report is defensive back Cam Lewis, who is doubtful with a hip injury. He was limited earlier in the week, but did not practice today.
The Jets are a bit more banged up, with starters Breece Hall (RB), Adonai Mitchell (WR), Dylan Parham (LG), and Mason Taylor (TE) ruled out, along with backup linebacker Kiko Mauigoa.
The Jets will have veteran Pro Bowl safety Minkah Fitzpatrick return after missing the last two games.
Once New York announces their official list, we’ll update this article.
