Well, that fun stretch of football we had for a few weeks was fun, but things came crashing back to reality for Kentucky Football yesterday.
Kentucky went on the road to take on the Vanderbilt Commodores, looking to pull an upset that would give the Wildcats their sixth win and make them bowl eligible.
Instead, Kentucky was thoroughly embarrassed on a national stage by Vanderbilt to the tune of a 45-17 beatdown in a game where the final score doesn’t even provide an accurate depiction of the game.
Kentucky was dominated through the game, as Vanderbilt put up more than 600 yards of offense.
So now, where do things stand with Mark Stoops?
After pulling off three wins in a row to come back to 5-5, it seemed like things had cooled a little on the hot seat for Stoops. Now, after this performance, that seat may be starting to get hot again.
How hot that seat is will probably be determined more based on next Saturday’s game against Louisville. The Cardinals were, at one point, a dark horse to make the ACC championship game, after defeating Miami and sitting at 7-1 on the season. However, the Cards have now lost three in a row, including two at home and their own blowout loss on the road at SMU yesterday.
A win over Louisville would provide a much-needed shot in the arm for a program to win a big rivalry game and make a bowl. A loss would put Kentucky into a very tough spot moving forward.
I still think Mark Stoops will be the coach at Kentucky next season if he wants to be, but what do you think? How hot is Mark Stoops’ seat now?
