UEFA has officially rejected Benfica’s appeal regarding Gianluca Prestianni, confirming that the Argentine winger’s provisional suspension will remain in place. As a result, he will not feature in tonight’s Champions League clash against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Benfica had attempted to overturn the precautionary suspension that was handed down following the first leg. Despite the sanction, Prestianni traveled with the squad to Madrid in anticipation of a potential reversal. That hope
has now been extinguished.
Although he made the trip, his presence in the Spanish capital will be symbolic only. He will not be eligible for selection and cannot participate in the match.
UEFA’s decision comes after reviewing the appeal submitted by the Portuguese club. The governing body has chosen to uphold the original ruling made by its Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Committee, meaning the provisional measure stands while the broader investigation continues.
The disciplinary process remains ongoing.
