The Baltimore Ravens are dealing with a laundry list of injuries entering Week 7, but Wednesday’s injury report included positive updates on several key players.
Chief among them was quarterback Lamar Jackson’s return to practice after a two-week absence due to an ankle injury. Head coach Jesse Minter twice used the word “preparation” when referring to Jackson’s participation, which was officially categorized as limited, and the two-time MVP was not in uniform when leaving the field. Taken together,
those signs suggest that he is preparing to play but is not physically ready. Minter maintained his previous stance that the team was taking Jackson’s injury “day by day.”
Jackson’s preparation could have included taking snaps from Cam Jurgens as the two work to develop their chemistry and communication at the line of scrimmage. Wednesday was their first shared practice since the former Eagles center arrived in Baltimore via trade two weeks ago, as well as his first day of full participation with his new team. Jurgens spoke to reporters after practice, an excellent sign towards his availability for his Ravens debut on Sunday against the Bengals.
The Ravens listed 13 other players on their first injury report of Week 7. Here is the full list (* denotes new injury):
Full participation
- TE Mark Andrews (full)
- OLB Trey Hendrickson (finger)
- C Cam Jurgens (concussion)
Limited participation
- WR Rashod Bateman (shoulder)
- S Jaylinn Hawkins (knee) *
- TE Matthew Hibner (hand)
- G/C Vega Ioane (ankle) *
- LG John Simpson (groin)
- LT Ronnie Stanley (non-injury related/rest, toe, ankle)
- CB T.J. Tampa Jr. (knee, designated to return from injured reserve)
- RG Andrew Vorhees (foot)
- DT Broderick Washington (ankle)
Did not participate
- DL Calais Campbell (non-injury related/rest)
- OLB Tavius Robinson (pectoral)
Robinson’s injury is by far the most alarming. He leads the defense with 3.5 sacks and has been a crucial run-stopper off the edge. An absence would elevate undrafted rookie Ethan Burke into a larger role; he had two pressures in three pass-rushing snaps on Sunday in Cleveland.
The Bengals are coming into their trip to Baltimore much healthier after their bye week. Cincinnati reported just one injury on Wednesday: safety Kyle Dugger, who was limited with a quad injury. He appeared in the team’s first three games before going down with 41 snaps on defense and 49 on special teams.
