The Seattle Seahawks are off this week, which is a good time for some rest and relaxation and maybe even some reflection.
At 5-2, the Seahawks are tied for the NFC West lead (but lose the tiebreaker to
the San Francisco 49ers on the head-to-head). Only the Green Bay Packers have fewer losses than Seattle in the NFC, but it’s also an extremely congested conference in which it’s very possible that 10-7 will once again not be enough for a playoff berth. The standard for winning the NFC West may also be no fewer than 12 wins, which is probably what we should’ve expected entering the season.
For today’s discussion, we want to know about your favorite moments of the Seahawks’ season up to this point. It could be a play, a game, player development, a symbolic moment like Kam Chancellor and Earl Thomas raising the 12 Flag in the Houston Texans win, it just has to be something positive. We are definitely not short on positives to start this season, so I expect a wide variety of answers.
My favorite game this year is the blowout win over the New Orleans Saints. They’re a dreadful team but the Seahawks have made it their mission in recent years to struggle toward wins over opponents of New Orleans’ caliber, and occasionally they’d straight up lose. Having a game effectively over by halftime is something we haven’t seen in a long time.
My favorite story of the season is the rise of Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who’s gone from “can he be a top 10 receiver?” to being the most prolific receiver in the NFL this year. When you consider his “modest” rookie season also involved two game-winning touchdowns in the final minute of regulation, his upward trajectory is practically stratospheric. It is remarkable to think that a Seahawks receiver has a legit shot at breaking the receiving yards record, which is where JSN sits thanks to his 814 yards through Week 7. Secondarily, Sam Darnold performing as well and actually better than he did with the Minnesota Vikings was the best case scenario. He has been terrific and I’m willing to live with the odd goofy play here and there if he otherwise shows tremendous composure, accuracy, and sound decision making. There’s been very little to complain about regarding Sam’s time here and John Schneider might have pulled off a masterclass by getting him to replace Geno Smith.
My favorite play is one that’s probably been forgotten a bit: George Holani’s heads up decision to recover this loose kickoff in the end zone for one of the rarest touchdowns in NFL history. This helped seal a huge win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Something that bizarre only makes sense for the Seattle Seahawks to be involved. It also exemplifies Seattle’s huge improvements on special teams in year two under Jay Harbaugh.
I cannot go this whole article without talking about the defense, which has been mostly amazing and looks to be legendary in terms of stopping the run. Nick Emmanwori could be a highlight for the end of the regular season when we’re talking about favorite moments and players. Byron Murphy II and Leonard Williams have both been outstanding, while Ernest Jones IV has been an awesome middle linebacker. I’m going to take a detour and say Uchenna Nwosu’s resurgence given his injuries is my top moment on defense. With Derick Hall injured and Boye Mafe not producing a whole lot, Nwosu has been terrific, recording a team-leading five sacks. Given the injury concerns and questions about his future, it’s awesome to see Chenna back at his best. And he should’ve had a safety.
Now it’s your turn! Tell us your highlights of the Seahawks’ 2025 season up to this point!
