Updates: Lawrence to IR, Liufau returns -Dallas Cowboys Staff Writers, Dallascowboys.com
Dallas loses one edge rusher to gain another.
The Cowboys officially placed OLB Malachi Lawrence on injured reserve ahead of their Week 9 matchup against the Colts. Earlier in the week, Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said Lawrence could potentially miss several weeks with an ankle injury. Now, he’ll miss at least the next four games. Lawrence will be eligible to return as early as Dallas’ Week 13 matchup against the Seahawks.
NFL fines Cowboys’ DeMarvion Overshown for hit on Cardinals’ Bam Knight – Bailey Leasure, Arizona Sports
DeMarvion Overshown’s bit hit on Cardinals running back costs him big
bucks.
The NFL has issued a fine of $9,528 to Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown for the use of his helmet on a hit that knocked Arizona Cardinals running back Bam Knight out of the game last week, per multiple reports. Knight took the hit to the helmet from Overshown in the second quarter, which forced a fumble that the Cowboys recovered. Overshown led with his shoulder and made contact with Knight’s head, but the play was not penalized.
NFC East Week 9 preview: Cowboys could use help from Joe Milton, Eagles – Jess Hayne, The Landry Hat
What’s on tap this weekend for the NFC East.
Last week, the Cowboys let a golden opportunity to gain ground on the Giants in the NFC East slip through their fingers. But even after their folly against Arizona, Dallas is still just a couple of games back from the lead with plenty of season still to go. And really, if the playoffs are still in the cards for the Cowboys, winning the division is the most likely path. The NFC North is monopolizing the bracket right now, with the Bears, VIkings and Packers holding all of the current wild card spots. Green Bay would be the seventh seed with a 5-3 record and a head-to-head win over Dallas, which will be tough to overcome.

Cowboys best hope is to tread water until team figures things out – Reid Hanson, Cowboys Wire
For as bad as things have gone for the Cowboys they still hang in the NFC if they can somehow mange to afloat.
But in the immortal words of Monty Python, they’re “not dead yet!” Which means as long as they can tread water and keep pace with the NFC East leading New York Giants, they have time to correct things. The 4-2-1 Giants are hardly the front runners most division leaders are at this point. They’ve somehow backed into first place with their QB1 on injured reserve. While they’re far less dysfunctional than Dallas, they’re still dysfunctional.
Cowboys at Colts 5 Questions: Should Trade-Bait Jonathan Taylor Sit Out? – Mike Fisher, Yahoo Sports
A few major question marks to consider before today’s game.
1 – When you see national coverage of the Colts/Cowboys, what’s the most common misconception you see?
ARTHUR: The Colts are as bad as advertised right now, as they look toward the future. They claim that practices are going well during the week and that effort is high, but it isn’t showing on Sundays.
The misconception I see most often is that owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon’s presence on the sideline is an unwelcome distraction. Her intimate knowledge of the team has already manifested in the positive moves of firing general manager Chris Ballard and extending young defensive tackle Adetomiwa Adebawore. Adebawore credited Irsay-Gordon with getting the deal done.
Cowboys vs Colts: Writer predictions for Week 9 – Mike Poland, Blogging the Boys
What do our very own BTB writers think will in today’s game.
When Indianapolis has the ball
There should be no mystery about what Indianapolis needs to try first. Jonathan Taylor has rushed for 610 yards and eight touchdowns, while Dallas just allowed Tyler Allgeier to produce an incredible 147 rushing yards on only 11 carries. After watching Allgeier break runs of 63 and 52 yards, Indianapolis would be foolish not to test the Cowboys on the ground immediately.
