Earlier this week, we asked fans if they believe Michigan head coach Kyle Whittingham will win a national championship at Michigan. And now, the results are in.
74% of voters believe Whittingham will win a national championship at Michigan.
Whittingham, 66, signed a five-year contract with Michigan and has a career 177-78 record. Whittingham was Utah’s head coach for 21 years, with his biggest bowl wins being in the Sugar Bowl and Fiesta Bowl. Whittingham’s run at Utah was impressive, but he now has all
the resources a coach could ever want at Michigan in terms of recruiting, NIL and beyond. Will that lead to Whittingham’s final years as a head coach in college football be his best yet? Quite possibly, a reflection of the voting results.
Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti, who’s 64, won a national championship during his second season at IU. By year two with Whittingham at Michigan, should that be the same kind of expectation for a veteran coach who’s considered to be among the best in college football?
Sophomore quarterback Bryce Underwood’s continued development will loom large over Michigan’s championship aspirations the next two seasons. Further, what the playoff landscape will look like in the next five years also is a major factor, with massive rumblings the playoffs will expand to 24 teams.
