UFC’s newest power couple, light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira and women’s flyweight Tracy Cortez, is no more according to a new post from “Poatan.”
With no New Year’s Eve fight card in North America
to ring in 2026, fight fans have been left to make their own entertainment. That’s led many to obsess over Pereira and Cortez, who seemingly announced they were ‘a thing’ on Instagram with a little smoochy NYE photo shoot. For the next eight days Tracy and Alex did a number of social media posts together, including one viral video that hit millions of views where Cortez asked Pereira to marry him.
Alas, what you see on Instagram is often more beautiful than what’s happening in real life. In a new post, Pereira announced that he and Cortez were ‘going their separate ways.’
“Thank you my fans for all the love,” he wrote. “I would like to communicate with you guys that even though me and Tracy shared great moments together, we decided it would be better for the both of us to go our separate ways.”
And then the stoic UFC champ’s Instagram added a video of him running in the pouring rain. It posted a picture of him looking out over the city skyline deep in thought. Honestly, it’s all a bit on the nose. You may have noticed we used a whole lot of ‘quotes’ around statements ‘claims’ that Pereira and Cortez were ‘together,’ and that’s because we think the whole thing was a ‘PR-mance.’
Alex Pereira is not some emotional teenager that’s going to post through every fling in life. He has a whole team surrounding him, and they’re always hard at work setting up skits and making meme videos. Based on Pereira’s posting history, this whole ‘relationship’ is very possibly not real and all for the clicks.
One thing is for sure: that viral video where Tracy Cortez asks a sleeping Pereira to marry her and he wakes up and replies ‘Chama’ — that is a skit. If you’re on X tweeting about how it proves Tracy was clingy and that’s why Alex broke up with her? Just stop. Go outside. Touch grass. Dig a hole in the snow if you have to. Log off the internet and let your brain cells start firing on their own a little without the glowing rectangle pressed against your slack jawed face.
The UFC returns to action on January 24th, and thank God because we’re all very clearly getting desperate for real fight news. Until then, I guess we’ll keep you updated on this totally real relationship and oh so tragic break-up.
