MLB.com | Bryan Hoch: Jazz Chisholm Jr. has been one of the best contributors to the Yankee lineup since coming over from the Marlins via trade last year, and he made franchise history on Friday by clubbing a two-run homer, his 30th of the year. Chisholm is one of just three Yankees to ever hit 30 homers and steal 30 bases in a single season, joining Bobby Bonds in 1975 and Alfonso Soriano in 2002 and 2003. Of course, one thing was on Jazz’s mind, and that was getting the win, but the Yankees unfortunately
dropped a chance to move closer to the Blue Jays in the AL East race.
NY Post | Joel Sherman ($): Trent Grisham’s been another incredible addition to the lineup, and he’s lined up to capitalize on his massive year soon. He’s lined up to be a free agent at the end of the year, and the Yankees are now at the point where they need to seriously consider the qualifying offer, which the Post is reporting will be around $22 million this offseason. It’d be a bit of a gamble to offer if Grisham does accept, as it’ll be a major pay raise from the $5 million he’s making this year and his success this season is unprecedented throughout the rest of his career. If anyone would know whether it was worth the risk, it would be the team that brought it out in him.
NY Daily News | Gary Phillips: Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz has been one of the Yankees’ biggest risers on their prospect rankings this season, coming over in a trade with the Red Sox over the offseason for Carlos Narvaez. He’s dominated High-A and Double-A, and now the organization is giving him a taste of his next challenge — a promotion to Triple-A. ERC will start against the Buffalo Bisons before the RailRiders get ready for their IL Championship series against Jacksonville, and given the trajectory of his rise could see action in the majors next season. The Yankee rotation has some major depth for next year, but mainstays Gerrit Cole and Clarke Schmidt both won’t be back until the middle of the season due to Tommy John surgeries. Whether the door will be open that early or not is up in the air, but Rodriguez-Cruz can make it an easy decision by continuing to dominate like he has.
NY Post | Greg Joyce: The Yankees have become a much more aggressive team on the basepaths this year, and that was amplified when they added MLB’s steal leader in Jose Caballero. He’s continued his strong performance swiping bags in pinstripes, but he has also displayed an over willingness to be aggressive that has bitten him on occasion. The infielder has been picked off a few times taking a massive lead, including twice in a four-game stretch during this road trip. Aaron Boone’s willing to ride with the posturing there, but the Yankee manager is aware that their newfound aggression comes with some downside.
