Former Germany international and Bayern Munich legend Bastian Schweinsteiger had some blunt words about the German national team after their UEFA Nation’s League loss to Greece. As Germany’s woes from the World Cup continue, the first ever loss to Greece has pundits, former player, fans, and critics questioning this team — especially the players.
Schweinsteiger was on the broadcast in Germany and said this as part of the post-match coverage (as captured by @iMiaSanMia): “We’re no longer a top team.
We’re now just an average team. We no longer have players who make the difference. Even Greece have (Konstantinos) Karetsas, (Christos) Tzolis, (Vangelis) Pavlidis — for me those are players who make the difference. Hopefully Jürgen Klopp manages to develop a team that can play Klopp football.”
Germany has begun Klopp’s tenure with one point out of two matches, including the loss Sunday in Augsburg. Schweinsteiger’s comments seem to place the blame with the players and leaves hope that Klopp can find players that can play in his system and bring Germany back to the team it once was.
