Whether he winds up winning the 2026 Ballon d’Or in London or not, Harry Kane has lit the world on fire ever since he joined Bayern Munich from Tottenham in the summer of 2023. His trophy drought is over, he’s setting scoring records for fun, and he’s doing it for both club and country, having come so close to getting to the World Cup final with England.
During the international break, Kane has carried his Bayern form right over to the Three Lions. Across England’s Nations League matches against Spain
(a 3-2 loss) and Czechia (a 2-0 win), the England skipper scored two goals. It would have been three had it not been for an unfortunate slip on the Wembley pitch that caused his penalty against Spain to rattle off the crossbar, but the miss clearly didn’t affect his confidence ahead of the match in Prague.
Kane finished last season with an unprecedented 61 goals and 7 assists from 51 matches across all competitions for Bayern, helping them secure the domestic double (Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal). For England at the World Cup, the national team skipper tallied 6 goals and 1 assist in their run to the semifinals before they were knocked out by Argentina. So far this season, Bayern’s number 9 has tallied 8 goals and 1 assist from 9 matches across all competitions for club and country, after needing 3 Bundesliga matches to open his league account. While he might not match last season’s incredible numbers, he is still on pace for another amazing campaign.
As such, England manager—and former Bayern manager—Thomas Tuchel heaped praise on Kane ahead of England’s Nations League match against Croatia in Rijeka. For Tuchel, there simply isn’t another finisher or player quite like Kane, and he added that it might be quite some time before England needs to find an alternative.
“He is the highest level of goalscorer, of finishing. You will not get another Harry Kane. We look for different options and solutions. There will be someone else, but it will not be Harry or a copy of Harry. We will find a solution when it comes to it but maybe not me, it might be another 10 years. He is not behind, he is not slow. He is the first one out there and the first one to push everyone and that is his mindset. He became a very, very hard-working forward on top of his finishing skills. He is a complete package,” Tuchel enthused, having been able to work with him at both Bayern and England (via @iMiaSanMia).
At a club like Bayern, Tuchel continued, the constant pressure to win and deliver silverware is a burden not all players can carry, but one that Kane handles exceptionally well, rising to the occasion nine times out of ten. “He brought that to a big club like Bayern Munich, and he gets full credit for it—it’s very, very impressive. It’s not easy to change clubs and come to Bayern Munich, where the expectation is win, win, win. You are under the spotlight, and he won everyone over with his quality, work ethic, and personality. It’s a beautiful story,” he said.
