The Knights came back down to earth after sweeping the Bulls (27-42) last week, as they split their series against the Comets (38-30) this week. Charlotte dropped the first two games of the six-game series, but they battled back to even the series.
Infielder Ryan Galanie, 25, who is primarily a first baseman, played extremely well against the Comets, bringing home his first weekly award of the season. Galanie went 9-for-22 with two homers, three doubles, three walks, and two steals in his only attempts. Galanie is slashing an impressive .249/.350/.509 overall, and he has been a big contributor to Charlotte’s excellent offensive output. Given how intense the weekly awards have been in Charlotte it has been tough to stand out from the crowd, but Galanie did just that. Galanie is significantly exceeding expectations since being drafted by the White Sox in the 13th round in 2023.

Birmingham dropped another series, although this one was competitive. Birmingham entered the weekend with a 3-2 series lead, but they dropped both games over the weekend to Biloxi (32-29).
Infielder Anthony DePino, 23, who is mainly a first baseman, led the way for the Barons. DePino went 7-for-26 with three homers, a triple, a walk and 10 RBIs. DePino’s performance went a long way during Friday’s game in particular; while the Barons only had four hits, DePino had two of them — and they were both homers. Those homers drove in three runs, and the Barons won by a score of 3-2. Birmingham is treating DePino quite nicely, as he was slashing .265/.380/.479 in 32 games with the Dash, and he is slashing .294/.388/.532 in 30 games with the Barons.

For the second straight week, the Dash went .500, remaining nine games better than .500 and in second place in the South Atlantic League South.
How about James Taussig? After winning back-to-back weekly awards at Kannapolis and earning a promotion, Taussig wasted no time making an impact in Winston-Salem. Taussig made his Dash debut on Wednesday, and in his first five games at the higher level, Taussig went 7-for-19 with three homers, three doubles, three walks and eight RBIs. As a result, this is the third week in a row where we are talking about Taussig being the Player of the Week for his team. Overall, Taussig is slashing .269/.385/.604 across 36 games with Kannapolis and five games with Winston-Salem.
It is also worth mentioning that although Caleb Bonemer had a quiet week, on Sunday it was announced that he would be joining the Birmingham Barons. It is no secret that Bonemer, 20, has transformed into one of baseball’s most exciting prospects. This year, in addition to winning three SSS weekly awards he has slashed .238/.381/.556. The talented third baseman and shortstop appears to be ready for the next level, and it will be interesting to see how he handles Double-A.

The Cannon Ballers pulled through with a convincing victory on Sunday to wrap up a 3-3 series against Fredericksburg (44-19). As a result, the Cannon Ballers are still a game better than .500.
Outfielder Derek Cerda, 23, who mainly plays right field, was on fire against Fredericksburg. Cerda went 9-for-19 with two homers, a double, a walk, six RBIs and a stolen base in his only attempt. The South Siders drafted Cerda in the 15th round in 2025, and he is off to a better start than most 15th-rounders. Cerda accumulated 16 total bases in his final four games of the week to seal the deal for his first weekly award of the season.

The Complex Sox had another subpar week, as they dropped four out of five and have fallen below the .333 mark.
Catcher Landon Hodge, 19, made it very difficult for opposing pitchers to keep him off base. Hodge went 5-for-11 with two RBIs and four walks, resulting in a four-digit OPS (1.080) while playing a premium position. Hodge was not the only position player who played well, as the offense scored 27 runs in five games (5.4 per game), but run prevention was a major issue for the Complex Sox all week, as they allowed 41 (8.2 per game).

Outfielder Sebastian Romero, 17, could not be stopped, and he gave the offense an enormous spark. Romero went 6-for-14 with three homers, a double, a walk, six RBIs and a stolen base in his only attempt. During the team’s only victory of the week, Romero blasted two homers and drove in four to pave the way.
