Bayern Munich has endured a poor re-start to the club season after the elongated September international break. First the team drew 2-2 with Augsburg in the Bundesliga, then stumbled to another draw in a 3-3 result in the Champions League away to Viking FK.
Though scoring five goals in two games may seem a little less than this Bayern team is used to and there are certainly ways the Bavarians could have improved on their attacking output, there is one clear, glaring problem. The fact is that the team conceded
five goals in that same span in time, which cannot happen if a team expects to win matches.
Certainly, that is the conclusion head coach Vincent Kompany came to. “In these two games [Augsburg and Viking], the energy was good, our football was quick, we created so many chances. But the problem is the chances we’ve been conceding — for me that’s not enough to say that you deserve to win,” Kompany clearly stated (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “We have to show a reaction on the pitch, and that’s what matters the most.”
