Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway now, they think of him as a coach, but before that, he was a tremendous talent until injuries slowed his career.
He was drafted out Memphis in 1993 and was an electric player from Day One. In 1996 though, his injury problems started with a knee problem. Though he played until 2006, he would struggle for the rest of his career with a series of injuries.
As you can see in this video, he was a brilliant talent. Orlando paired him with Shaquille O’ Neal and fans saw a player who
was quick, explosive and had passing skills that rivaled some of the greats of the game.
In the end, he just turned out to be one of those guys whose body could not withstand the day to day grind of NBA life.
He does things here that remind you, at times, of Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan and Larry Bird. If you’ve never seen him, be prepared to be amazed. He was a comet ultimately, lighting up the NBA sky for a relatively short time.
