The Syracuse Orange are still underdogs, even after a victory this past weekend. Syracuse opened as 6.5 point underdogs to the Virginia Cavaliers this weekend according to FanDuel’s odds. It is the third game this season that the Orange have opened as underdogs. The Orange are looking to build momentum while Virginia is looking for a rebound win.
Syracuse is 2-2 after a nail-biting victory this past Saturday 42-41 in overtime. The Orange led by 20 points with 7:58 left in the third quarter. The most
notable part of Syracuse’s win was the switch at quarterback. Kennesaw State transfer Amari Odom started the game and took every snap at quarterback in place of Steve Angeli. Odom went 27-37 for 335 yards, five passing touchdowns and two interceptions.
Virginia is coming off its second loss of the season after a 38-7 loss to Florida State. Seminoles QB Ashton Daniels rushed for five touchdowns in the game. The Cavaliers are 3-2 on the season with a win over NC State and a loss to West Virginia. The Cavaliers are looking to repeat their success of last season, when they went 10-2 in the regular season and earned a trip to the ACC Championship game.
The Orange and Cavaliers have played each other six times. Syracuse won the last meeting between the teams in 2022. The Orange opened the game taking a 16-0 lead into halftime before UVA took a one-point lead with 5:51 left in the game. With 1:14 left in the game, Andre Szmyt hit his fifth field goal of the game to give the Orange a 22-20 victory.
The upcoming game against Virginia is the final game of a three-game road trip for Syracuse. The Orange started the away swing with a 27-13 loss to Pitt. Syracuse will finally return to the JMA Wireless Dome on October 17 to host Louisville. It’ll be the first Orange home game since the September 12 loss to Cal, making it 35 days between games at home for Syracuse.
