Conor McGregor is tweeting again, which is always a fun ride, and interacting with fans who are demanding answers for his feeble UFC 329 performance against Max Holloway last weekend in Las Vegas. “Notorious” blew out his knee to open the fight, bringing an end to the “Sin City” headliner in just 69 seconds.
“I have not and will not take any mind altering substances,” McGregor told a fan when asked if he was on drugs. “I feel if the fight had of went any different, favorably or otherwise, even if the fight got
to take place at least, I may have cracked the seal on this and ended back in the cycle.”
McGregor has struggled with drug and alcohol addiction over the years and tarnished his legacy with sexual assault. “Notorious” later claimed he was cured by Ibogaine and religion (along with a few other things) ahead of his long-awaited comeback but it sounds like he’s still not out of the woods just yet.
“It went the way it went and I am awaiting my surgery and planning my recovery so zero mind altering substances have entered my body whatsoever,” McGregor added. “More time under extreme discipline is required and that is it. I find extreme discipline most enjoyable anyway so happy days.”
A timeline for his Octagon return has yet to be determined but McGregor, who turned 38 just a few days back, named Holloway as the final opponent on his current UFC contract, no doubt breaking the hearts of Michael Chandler and patient MMA fans waiting for this overdue rematch.
