Looking for a silver lining after the Philadelphia Eagles lost their third straight game?
They’re not the only team in the NFC East that didn’t win this week.
None of them did!
The Dallas Cowboys lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday night despite entering that game as 9.5-point home favorites.
After the Eagles lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday morning in no small part due to poor game management, Dan Quinn said “Nick Siranni, hold my beer!” as the Washington Commanders accidentally ran out
the clock on themselves in overtime while in position to kick the game-winning field goal. They had to settle for a tie with the New York Giants instead of picking up a season-saving win.
As a result, the division standings look like this after Week 5:
On one hand, it’s frustrating because the Eagles could’ve been in first right now had Sirianni not botched the end of the Jags game. And/or if the Eagles didn’t blow their lead over the Los Angeles Rams in Week 4.
On the other hand, the NFC East being bad buys the Eagles some more time to figure things out.
But not too much time because three of the Eagles’ next four games are important division matchups:
High level analysis incoming! If the Birds can take care of business during this stretch, they’ll be in relatively good shape. If not, maybe they’ll be in a position to sell ahead of the NFL trade deadline.
For what it’s worth, the Eagles are currently favored to win the NFC East at +170. They’re just slightly ahead of the Cowboys at +180. The Giants are third at +320 and the Commanders have the longest odds at +750.
RJ Ochoa and I will be discussing all things NFC Least (that’s a nickname we invented for when the division is bad) on this week’s NFC East Mixtape episodes. Smash that subscribe button, baby.
And check out the NFC East Mixtape edition of The Feed as well, preferably on the new SB Nation app.
