Due to short-term injuries to receivers Matthew Golden and Jayden Reed, the Green Bay Packers looked to add a receiver on Sunday, as they reported worked out Kisean Johnson, Kobe Hudson and Cornell Powell between their Family Night practice on Friday and their media-open practice on Sunday. Apparently, Johnson was the receiver who impressed the most in the workout, as the Packers added him to the team’s 91-man roster.
In a corresponding roster move to make space for the addition of Johnson, Green
Bay let go of cornerback Marlon Jones, who was waived with an injured designation today. Jones was a rookie UDFA who signed with the Packers in mid-May.
This is actually Johnson’s second stint with Green Bay, after he signed with the Packers’ practice squad on January 6th, leading up to the team’s postseason loss to the Chicago Bears. If you lost Johnson in the nearly 30-player shuffle in the final two weeks of Green Bay’s season, no one is going to blame you. Unlike most of the Packers’ practice squad, Johnson was not signed to a reserve/futures deal after the season, making him a free agent.
At Alabama State, Kisean Johnson was an FCS All-American before transferring to Western Kentucky, where he had 75 receptions for 925 yards and seven touchdowns in his lone year at the FBS level. In 2025, he was originally signed as a UDFA with the Cleveland Browns before his stint with Green Bay.
In the 2025 class, Johnson was The Athletic’s Dane Brugler’s 124th-ranked receiver. He was given a true free agent grade after measuring in at about 6’0.5” and 216 pounds at WKU’s pro day. He ran a 4.63-second 40-yard dash and posted a 33” vertical jump during the pre-draft process.
