It’s only a matter of time before recruiting news picks back up with a full head of steam for the Buckeyes. Spring football practice just around the corner, Ohio State will once again be on the field competing and preparing for their 2026 season, but also having the opportunity to play host to several top targets from all over the country.
Still some news worthy of sharing, Thursday provided information on potential future prospects and another addition to the 2026 class. Even on the slower days,
the Buckeyes are at work.
Larry Johnson in full pursuit of top target committed elsewhere
Ohio State isn’t going to back down from any program when it comes to recruiting top players. One of the premier programs nationally year in and year out, the Buckeyes have just as much going for themselves as anyone else, and the track record speaks for itself.
Whether they win out in the or not, Ohio State is going to pursue players committed elsewhere if they feel they have a realistic shot at flipping their pledge, and there is already one player in the 2027 class that fits the billing.
Texas native Jalen Brewster is the No. 5 player nationally and top defensive lineman in the class per the 247Sports Composite. Committed to Texas Tech currently, Brewster gave the in-state program his pledge back in October, but with the departure of his future position coach, the Lone Star State standout has been clear that his commitment status is not as solid as it once was.
In fact, his comments make it sound as if there’s an expected change coming in the near future with other programs gaining momentum. Brewster is making it known he’s no longer “solid” to Texas Tech, and is ready to entertain the likes of others — including Ohio State.
Multiple schools such as Indiana, LSU, Miami, SMU, and Ohio State were in to see Brewster last week, and with those visits, he is keeping his options more open. The Buckeyes sent Larry Johnson to pay the five-star a visit, so this is clearly a target Ohio State’s staff does feel they can land if the efforts are made.
From here, the attention paid Brewster’s way isn’t going to decrease. If he does officially re-open his recruitment, expect the Buckeyes to be in the mix for the long haul.
Ohio State lands Georgia long snapper
The 2026 recruiting class was thought to be completed, but Thursday provided one more addition to Ohio State’s haul of players. Not the typical boom you would expect when it comes to commitments, but the Buckeyes have a long snapper now in the fold.
Georgia native, Brody Jenkins (Madison, Georgia/Morgan County) took to his social media to share his commitment news, and as far as long snappers go, Jenkins is ranked as a top three player at his position. Multiple offers to his name, Ohio State beat out Auburn for his pledge, and now have their long snapper of the future headed to Columbus.
The Buckeyes have clearly prioritized improving on special teams this offseason, which should be a very welcomed development for the fanbase.
