Rumors are swirling around the Camp Nou as FC Barcelona reportedly considers a winter loan move for South Korean forward Son Heung-min. The 33-year-old, currently playing for Los Angeles FC in Major League
Soccer, could return to Europe under a special clause in his contract that allows a temporary loan during the MLS off-season.
Spanish outlet Fichajes.net claims the Catalan club views Son as an ideal short-term addition, offering both experience and attacking depth at a time when Barcelona continues to rebuild amid injuries and budget restrictions. According to the report, Son’s “Beckham clause,” named after the former England star who used a similar arrangement while playing in MLS to play on loan in Europe, would enable a short stay without breaking his existing contract with LAFC, which runs through 2027.
Son joined LAFC earlier this year after a decade at Tottenham Hotspur, where he became one of the Premier League’s most admired players. He quickly adapted to life in Los Angeles, scoring nine goals in his first ten matches and becoming a fan favorite.
Barcelona’s interest is reportedly exploratory, but the timing aligns with the MLS calendar. The league’s season ends in December, giving Son a potential window to rejoin European competition before the American campaign resumes in March.
LAFC are currently in the MLS Cup playoffs and set to play Austin FC in a best-of-three series.
For Barcelona, a deal of this kind could be mutually beneficial. The club would gain a proven scorer without long-term financial commitments, while Son would maintain match fitness and visibility ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
