Two members of the New England Patriots are trending in a positive direction ahead of Sunday’s contest against the New York Jets, and are now considered “likely” to play in the game.
Starting left tackle Will Campbell and rotational running back TreVeyon Henderson both entered the weekend as questionable due to their respective knee and ankle injuries. However, after participating in practice throughout the week, the expectation is that they will be active against the Jets. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network
was first to report the news.
Henderson, 23, went down in the second quarter of last week’s win over the Las Vegas Raiders and was unable to. return to the game. Initial reports indicated that he might miss “multiple weeks” with a high ankle sprain, but he was back on the practice fields already on Wednesday.
Campbell, 22, was hurt two plays after Henderson. He exited the game for the locker room and despite briefly returning to the sideline never reentered the contest. However, initial fears that he might “miss some time” because of a knee sprain did not turn out to be true; like his teammate, he also was back on the practice fields on Wednesday and available all three days.
Whether or not Henderson and Campbell will play a full workload against the Jets on Sunday will be seen. Last week, the team turned to third-string running back Corey Kiner and first-round rookie offensive tackle Caleb Lomu to replace them.
Kickoff between the Patriots and Jets at Gillette Stadium is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
