So far, Bayern Munich has struck out in its attempts to land VfB Stuttgart attacker Nick Woltemade. There is still time left in the transfer window, but it appears Woltemade is going to stay put.
Despite that, most at VfB Stuttgart are expecting Woltemade to make the move to Bayern Munich in 2026 per Sport Bild journalists Christian Falk and Tobi Altschäffl (via @iMiaSanMia):
Everyone at VfB Stuttgart assumes that Nick Woltemade will end up joining FC Bayern in summer 2026. The move has only been delayed.
That is all well and good, but at what cost? Would it have been better to pay the €65-€75 million to get Woltemade this summer or to chance what could be a higher fee in 2026?
This is where it gets complicated and why the situation devolving into a p*ssing match did not make much sense for anyone involved. The only way Bayern Munich “wins” this battle is if Woltemade falters and has a bad season, which lessens his value.
Is that a fight you want to win?
Not at all.
So, while Bayern Munich needs an attacker, Woltemade seems likely to stay put and the countdown to next summer begins.

Bavarian Podcast Works — Weekend Warm-up Show Season 5, Episode 4
Bayern Munich is sputtering toward the finish line of this transfer window, but at least games are starting…right?
Right?
Yes, it is time to get excited for the season, but this week represented more bad news when it comes to the state of the club…off the field. Let’s explore how the team can look so good, but the club’s front office and operations might be in trouble. This is what we have on tap for this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works — Weekend Warm-up Show:
- Paul Wanner is turning into another sorry case of too much too soon. Where did Bayern Munich go wrong with its Wunderkind?
- Explaining the rumored loan mandate for Bayern Munich and why this is just another example of important figures at the club not being aligned.
- The Nick Woltemade situation was crazy enough…and then we got leaked emails. Why German clubs seem irate at Bayern Munich and eager to embarrass the Rekordmeister.
Eberl criticizes Wanner
Sky Germany captured comments of Max Eberl criticizing Paul Wanner for not believing he would get a chance at Bayern Munich.
Needless to say, this does not seem like a great relationship at the moment.
“We loan players out to give them the chance to be ready for FC Bayern. I’ve seen our squad and I’ve seen the injury to Jamal Musiala. There’s often the argument: yes, but what about when Jamal Musiala comes back? By the time Jamal comes back, we’d have played 20-25 games, and you’d have had a big opportunity to show your qualities at FC Bayern, where you’ve always wanted to play,” Eberl told Sky Sport journalist Kerry Hau (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “If you don’t think so, then we — as a club — have to make decisions. We found a very good solution with PSV. And it’s also crucial that we still have control (through the buy-back clause), so he’s not completely gone.”
Maybe Wanner just was not as good as advertised. Maybe his development has hit a lull. Maybe he is just ready to move on from Bayern Munich. Whatever the case, hopefully the kid gets his game in line and gets back on the proper track before it is too late.
