Alexander Volkanovski has another massive title fight ahead of him, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t making time for his burgeoning acting career.
The UFC featherweight champion defends his belt against Movsar Evloev in the main event of UFC 333 on Oct. 24 and ahead of that card, Volkanovski once again teamed up with Sportsbet.com.au to produce a short in which he stars in a series of fake films.
Check out the video below.
Unsurprisingly, the clip begins with “The Great” portraying “Alexander the Great,”
a cheeky response to the recent smash hit The Odyssey.
“When I saw Matt Damon do Odyssey with ‘Nolesy’ [Christopher Nolan], I’m like, mate, let’s get the Greeks to show you how it’s really done.“
When told that he looks like he’s “actually seen the horrors of war,” Volkanovski answers by recalling one of the most memorable two-fight feuds of his career:
“I’ve seen Islam Makhachev. Twice.”
Volkanovski also finds himself in a space adventure called Going the Distance (“You can’t get taken down when there’s no ground”), a James Bond send-up called Submission Impossible (“You keep watching my hands. You’ve got to watch the feet”), and a Miami Vice parody called Miami KO.
The clip even features the return of “Old Man Volk” nemesis, Beverly, this time working as the fighter’s hard-ass agent. Lambasting Volkanovski for taking on a low-profit, independent film, Beverly takes a crack at UFC CEO Dana White and the always thorny issue of fighter pay.
“That was a passion project,” Volkanovski says. “But yeah, to be honest, I don’t know what I was thinking.”
“It was a flop,” Beverly says. “But it still made more than what Dana pays.”
Volkanovski can be seen back in the octagon at UFC 333 when he fights the undefeated Evloev, and also on the silver screen as part of an ensemble cast in the Street Fighter reboot, which premieres worldwide this weekend.
