Real to beat Bayern to Guéhi? (ESPN)
Bayern Munich was recently referred to as the frontrunner for Marc Guéhi, but maybe….not so fast?
Per this report, Real Madrid is “confident” in being able to land the Crystal Palace defender:
Real Madrid
are confident that they will sign Marc Guéhi when the Crystal Palace center back’s contract ends in the summer, according to The Sun. Los Blancos believe that the 25-year-old favors a move to join fellow England internationals Jude Bellingham and Trent Alexander-Arnold, despite Bayern Munich joining them, Liverpool and Barcelona in the race to sign him as a free agent. The Reds are looking to make a big defensive signing in January, but Guéhi reportedly isn’t interested in a mid-season move.
Bayern Munich is in a weird spot here. The Bavarians might need two center-backs…or they might need none. At this point, the first domino to fall will be Dayot Upamecano, who — allegedly — wants a big signing bonus and a release clause. If Bayern Munich does not opt to offer those to the Frenchman, he could start to look elsewhere.
That is when things could get real between Bayern Munich and either Guéhi or Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck.
Kimmich talks through comparisons of Bayern, Germany (Welt am Sonntag via @iMiaSanMia)
In a recent interview, Joshua Kimmich was asked some questions comparing the situations with Bayern Munich and the Germany national team. As always, Kimmich had some interesting things to say:
You’ve had a successful few weeks with Bayern. What can the national team learn from FC Bayern?
Kimmich: “I’ve already mentioned what’s important in terms of a team – and I believe we’re on the right track. However, the comparison is a bit flawed. If, for example, Harry Kane and Michael Olise were injured, that would also change Bayern’s game. That’s also the case with the national team when key players are out, even if the pool of players to draw from might be bigger”
But it’s noticeable that you consistently play one system at Bayern, while the national team is much more experimental. Do you wish for more continuity there?
Kimmich: “I’m convinced and know that the coach has a good instinct when it comes to that.”
When players get injured, opportunities arise for other players. Is Serge Gnabry, who fought back after Jamal Musiala’s injury, a good example of that?
Kimmich: “Absolutely. We were talking earlier about how it’s supposedly never been easier to become a national team player. If I apply that to Bayern, it was never so easy to get game time before the season. When I came to Bayern at 20, there were 23 players in the squad and there were only three substitutions per game. I always had to cross the fingers that we would be 4-0 up at halftime so that I could play. (laughs) It’s always worth working hard all year round. Of course, every player depends on the coach, who has to give them the chances. Serge got them, even though things didn’t go so well at the beginning. But the coach continued to trust him. Now he’s playing consistently very, very well.”

Everton thinking about Jackson move? (Football Insider)
With Nicolas Jackson’s future up in the air, Everton could be looking to pounce on the Chelsea loanee:
Everton are keeping close tabs on Bayern Munich’s on-loan Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson, sources have told Football Insider. Sources say Bayern are increasingly unlikely to trigger their £70million option to sign the 24-year-old permanently and could allow him to return to Chelsea.
That is despite Bayern holding talks with Chelsea over Jackson in an attempt to negotiate a lower fee to bring the striker to Munich on a permanent basis. As a result, David Moyes‘ side have now joined the race, with the Senegal international seen as a “Moyes-type” striker with the physicality and movement to lead the line. Everton are determined to sign a striker in the January transfer window, and are now keeping tabs on both Jackson and Ivan Toney ahead of potential moves.
As of now, it seems very unlikely that Bayern Munich would exercise its option-to-buy on Jackson. However, if the striker can pick up his play, he could create a market for himself. Clearly, Everton is already eager to engage if this report is true.
Eberl believes in this team (11FREUNDE via @iMiaSanMia)
In a recent interview with 11FREUNDE, Max Eberl was asked to comment on the statements from Uli Hoeneß where he compared Bayern Munich to being the Hoffenheim of the Champions League:
Is Uli Hoeneß right when he says that FC Bayern is to the Champions League what TSG Hoffenheim is to the Bundesliga?
Eberl: “As I said, at the moment we’re trying to gain some weight alongside our sporting success. But we lost the match against Champions League winners PSG by a whisker at the Club World Cup, and most recently we won against Club World Cup champions Chelsea in the Champions League. I sense a good energy in the group, and when Hiroki, Jamal, and Phonzy return in the crunch time of the season, I’m happy to be the underdog and see what happens in the Champions League.”

With the midweek DFB-Pokal match out of the way, Bayern Munich returns its focus to the Bundesliga.

- What to watch for with Bayer Leverkusen.

Vinícius Júnior looking for a new home? (ESPN)
Real Madrid star Vinícius Júnior might be eyeing a move and might prefer Paris Saint-Germain over other options:
Real Madrid winger Vinícius Júnior is considering new options and has put a move to Paris Saint-Germain ahead of the Premier League and Saudi Pro League, according to Diario Sport. The Brazil international issued an apology to Madrid fans on Wednesday for his reaction at being substituted during Sunday’s Clásico win over Barcelona. However, Sport reports that the relationship between Vini Jr. and Madrid coach Xabi Alonso can’t be repaired, which has resulted in the 25-year-old wanting a summer departure. Vini Jr.’s contract is due to expire in 2027, putting him in a strong negotiating position, and the prospect of working with Luis Enrique has contributed to him wanting to join Les Parisiens.
