The Minnesota Golden Gophers volleyball team hits the road for their first Big Ten road match of the season when they will face the Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor on Wednesday night. First serve is scheduled
for 6:30 PM central and will air on Big Ten Network.
Minnesota opened the Big Ten season at home last week wit a pair of 3-0 sweeps of Michigan State and Rutgers to win their 11th and 12th consecutive matches of the season. In their pair of wins the Gophers hit .389 against Michigan State and .369 vs. Rutgers. Julia Hanson (11) and Alex Acevedo (10) combined for 21 kills in the match against the Spartans while Purdue transfer Lourdes Myers and Hanson paced the team on Sunday against Rtgers with eight kills each.
Minnesota moved up in the national rankings to #10 this week in the AVCA Poll. It’s the first time the Gophers have cracked the Top 10 since 2023.
Michigan is 10-3 on the season but started the Big Ten slate 0-2 with losses last week to Nebraska and Michigan State both in 3-0 sweeps. The Wolverines were slatted to finish in 10th place in the Preseason Big Ten coaches poll.
Minnesota has owned the Wolverines both overall in their history and of recent. The Gophers are 65-16 all-time against Michigan and have won 14 of the last 15 in the series. The lone loss came in 2021, a five set defeat in Ann Arbor.
After Wednesday night’s match the Gophers stay on the road and will face Northwestern in Evanston Sunday afternoon.
